Longtime partners, the Christian duo are each now pursuing their own path in the faith-based film genre.

Andrew Erwin and his younger brother Jon Erwin are among the very best filmmakers in the world of Christian movies, with joint productions to their credit like I Can Only Imagine, I Still Believe, and Jesus Revolution, all of which they co-directed and/or co-produced. The tremendous success of that first picture, in fact, allowed them in 2018 to set up their Kingdom Story Company in partnership with Lionsgate studio, and that then served as the production vehicle for the latter two films and several others.
For reasons never clear to us at Christian Film Blog, in late 2023, Jon Erwin launched another production company - Wonder Project - and struck out on his own. And he is off to quite a start, too, having produced with Amazon MGM Studios the Bibical drama House of David, which has consistently ranked in the Top-10 on the Prime Video streaming platform since its first season released in February of this year.
Amazon was so pleased with the results that last month, just six episodes into the eight-episode season, it commissioned the second season of the show about Israel's greatest king. And Jon Erwin - the creator of the series - is right now in Greece filming the new episodes with his cast and crew.

Andrew Erwin is also in the middle of production, but in Nashville, Tennessee, where he is working on I Can Only Imagine 2, the sequel of the 2018 Bart Millard story that is among the top grossing faith-based films of all time: it reached a domestic box office of $83.4 million. Like that original picture, this new one is based on the life of Millard - lead singer of Christian band MercyMe - and focuses on the significant challenges he faced because of a health crisis involving his young son.
Kingdom Story Company, which just opened a particularly nice, new office in Nashville, is headed by Andrew Erwin, who is still professionally connected to Jon Erwin and his Wonder Project: the former outfit is among the production companies involved in the latter's House of David. So, while we do not know the rationale behind the split of the brothers' direct partnership, it would certainly seem to be to the good of the faith-based movie business since they are now doubling their output.
