The hit show about the life of Jesus plans to release next season's finale in theaters around the globe and it has a whopping price tag.

The Chosen became the all-time top crowdfunding champion among media projects back in 2018, and it continues to use that approach to finance production of the series. Oh, how far this show has come, though, since it planned to shoot each episode of Season 1 for $400,000: the final episode of Season 6 is going to cost $30 million!
To be fair, it is to be a double episode - meaning feature-film length - it will be dubbed into dozens of foreign languages so it can premiere at the same time in theaters around the world, and it will include the Crucifixion, which show creator/director Dallas Jenkins and his team shot in Matera, Italy over several weeks in June, as we reported here.
The first six episodes of Season 6 are already financed and Jenkins' fund-raising partners at the Come and See Foundation have thus far brought in $16 million for the final episode, meaning they are more than halfway to their goal. He sent out a note and accompanying video to supporters earlier this week encouraging them to pitch in, underlining that this is "the biggest season" yet and also "the most difficult." And that the last episode is going to be truly expansive.
"We get into the global story, the history of Creation, of God's story that starts with Creation, starts in the Garden of Eden, then transitions into the Fall and the introduction of death into the world. And we give you not just the how, not just the what of Christ's Crucifixion, and not even just the when, but the why."
Whew, Jenkins, lead actor Jonathan Roumie and the rest of the team will clearly be covering an awful lot of ground in that final episode of Season 6, which is the penultimate one of the series. The first six episodes of the season are expected to release in the second half of next year, with the finale rolling out in theaters sometime in 2027.
