Coming off the U.S. elections, the Christian actress takes to social media to remind her followers who is really in charge.
The dust has largely settled on the 2024 political season in America, with most of the races decided now that the votes have been tallied. It is nonetheless worth noting some sage advice that Roma Downey dispensed on election day, one week ago.
The native of Northern Ireland and longtime California resident, who is a committed Believer, shared a famous Scripture on Instagram - Psalm 46:10 - and encouraged everyone not to get too concerned about who won the election. That verse, which you can see in the post from Downey, is one that is quite familiar to those who regularly read the Bible: "Be still and know that I am God."
In her accompanying missive, the star of the 1990s hit show Touched by an Angel and the current Amazon Prime Video streaming series The Baxters suggests that we take time to "turn the election news off and just be quiet for a moment and in the quiet feel the presence of God."
"Whatever the results, whether we are excited or disappointed by the voting outcome we should always remember who is really in charge."
A good call on her part, to be sure, and we will add that Romans 13:1 is also worth remembering in this connection: "...there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God."
