This latest Biblical project from the Christian couple debuts this weekend.
Roma Downey and Mark Burnett are among the heavy hitters in Hollywood's faith-based landscape, having merged their Lightworkers production company with MGM several years ago. In addition to Downey's acting (Touched by an Angel) and Burnett's reality TV productions (Survivor, The Voice, Shark Tank), the husband-and-wife team has produced faith-based works like the mini-series The Bible for History channel, the theatrical hit Son of God, and A.D. The Bible Continues, which ran for one season on NBC.
If you've seen that series, then Resurrection will feel familiar, because much of the cast from A.D. The Bible Continues is back for this one, and footage and scenes have been reused since filming during the coronavirus proved unworkable. That's unlikely to detract from the impact of the movie, though, which promises in its synopsis to show how the followers of Christ find understanding after his resurrection when they "realize that hope didn't die on the cross. It lives on in them."
Downey and Burnett are both committed Believers, and in an interview with The Christian Post, Downey tells the publication she and her husband pray about every project, specifically asking "the Holy Spirit to guide us, to strengthen us, to help us to make the right casting choices, to help us make the right hiring choices."
If you're a Discovery Plus subscriber, you'll be able to judge for yourself how they did on this one starting Saturday, March 27th, when Resurrection premieres on that streaming platform. If not, you can sign up for the service for $4.99 a month via this link to its website. The trailer below will give you a sense of what to expect.
