After significant production delays, it would seem that Jesus Revolution will begin filming next month. This is the latest project from Andrew Erwin and Jon Erwin and their Kingdom Story Company's partnership with Lionsgate, and it is based on the 1960s and 1970s mass spiritual awakening among American young people known as the Jesus Movement.

It started in Southern California and was in part spearheaded by local pastor Chuck Smith and a hippy evangelist named Lonnie Frisbee. Among those who came to faith in Christ was a then 17-year-old Greg Laurie, now a prominent pastor himself and a producer of this film, which is partially based on his 2018 book also entitled the Jesus Revolution.

Now getting back to Jonathan Roumie, the actor who plays the Jesus character in the hit streaming series The Chosen, and who posted a picture of himself with Laurie on social media last November: he has apparently signed on to play the part of Frisbee.

At least that's according to an announcement on Instagram from the pastor (we have not been able to confirm it from any other sources). That missive also states that Kelsey Grammer will portray Chuck Smith, evidently replacing Jim Gaffigan, who had earlier been cast in the part. Laurie - who is to be played by Joel Courtney - additionally appeals to followers to "Pray for the cast and crew," as well as for revival.

"The Jesus Movement was the last great American Spiritual awakening. Some historians have said it was the greatest revival of all time. Let's pray for another."

According to the film's website, production will begin next month in Alabama - the Erwin Brothers' home state - and then move to Southern California in March. The Erwins, who are producing this picture, are also looking for large numbers of extras in both locations; there's information about how to become one via this link to the website.

In Laurie's social media post, he says the Jesus Revolution will be released on Easter of 2023. In the meantime, you can find out more about the project from Jon Erwin and the pastor in the video below.
