The next installments of the hit streaming series will release this year, but it is going to cost you more to watch.

The first season of House of David, a Biblical drama about ancient Israel's greatest king, climbed to number one after it rolled out on Prime Video in the United States back in February. Clearly aiming to capitalize on the show's popularity, filmmakers at Wonder Project and Amazon MGM Studios announced that they will release Season 2 sometime this fall.

As with eight-episode Season 1, it will stream exclusively on Amazon's Prime Video platform, but this time with a twist: it will initially be available only if you purchase an additional subscription to the yet to be launched Wonder Project channel. Bottom line, it will cost U.S. customers of Prime Video an additional $8.99 per month for that new ad-free service on top of their existing subscription.

Christian filmmaker Jon Erwin, the creator of House of David and founder of Wonder Project, took to social media to extol the virtues of his company's new channel and of Season 2 of the show, calling the latter "epic." As to the former, the Alabama native stated he and his partners have been "working on this for years," adding that they "want to create a destination for your family, because we are making it for our family."

The new subscription service will feature more than 1000 hours of "curated" movies and TV programs, according to a press release that goes on to say that the content is meant "to entertain the world with courageous stories, inspiring hope and restoring faith in things worth believing in." That general approach is in keeping with the work Erwin has done heretofore as a writer and director, including his top faith-based movies like I Can Only Imagine (2018), I Still Believe (2020), and Jesus Revolution (2023).

Christian Film Blog will keep you up to date on the launch of Wonder Project's subscription service and the release of Season 2 of House of David. In the meantime, you can watch Season 1 of the show right now on Prime Video, assuming, that is, that you are a subscriber.
