Top-40 Finish for "Breakthrough"

The Christian film is now in its ninth week in release and still doing well at theaters.

According to preliminary data from The Numbers, Breakthrough brought in $61,000 at the box office over the weekend, which should be good enough for a spot in the Top-40. That brings the movie's total domestic haul to $40.57 million. It has made nearly $10 million more internationally, so as this film nears the end of its theatrical run, it has already achieved financial success.

From Christian producer DeVon Franklin, Breakthrough tells the true story of a Missouri teenager who fell through the ice and drowned in a lake. He had no heartbeat for approximately an hour when he was miraculously restored to life as his mother prayed over him in the hospital.

The story is powerful, the screenplay well written and the cast strong, including Chrissy Metz, Topher Grace, Josh Lucas, Marcel Ruiz, Dennis Haysbert and Mike Colter. The soundtrack, too, has a host of big-name performers, including Grammy winners Lecrae and Carrie Underwood. Breakthrough goes on sale in digital format July 2nd and on DVD and Blu-ray July 16th.
