Soundtrack Releases for "A Week Away"

Songs from some of the biggest names in Christian music are featured in this new faith-based film.

Written by Christian actor and singer Alan Powell and Kali Bailey, A Week Away will premiere later this month on Netflix. A fish-out-of-water story, it stars Kevin Quinn as a troubled teen who ends up at a summer church camp where he falls for a fellow camper played by Bailee Madison. And since this is a musical, there are plenty of song and dance numbers.

Capitol Christian Music Group put out the soundtrack today and it features three original songs written by the movie's music producer, Adam Watts (High School Musical 3), and a host of Christian hits like God Only Knows from For King & Country, Michael W. Smith's Place in This World, Dive from Steven Curtis Chapman, and Amy Grant's 1991 cross-over smash Baby, Baby. Those latter two artists even make cameos in the movie, playing a lifeguard and a camp counselor, respectively.

In a press release, Grant says this movie hits close to home for her because she was "one of those kids that went to church camp for one week every summer from middle school through my high school years." She also calls her experience with the film "incredible."

"What a thrill it was for me to hear my song "Baby, Baby" reinvented for a camp setting and feel like it fit the story of the film so perfectly. Also to hear it sung by a fantastic male voice (Kevin Quinn & Jahbril Cook) is something I had never imagined. They knocked it out of the park!"

All the songs in the movie are performed by cast members, not the original musicians, so expect a new take on the old hits. You can purchase the soundtrack for A Week Away right now from the usual music streaming platforms. The film itself releases March 26th exclusively on Netflix.
