Updated: Nov 18, 2022

The first two episodes of the hit series about the life of Christ release in theaters tomorrow (Friday, November 18th).

In a break with precedence, The Chosen is launching a new season in movie theaters instead of on its regular streaming platforms. Show creator/director Dallas Jenkins stated in a recent note to supporters that he and his partners elected to go the theatrical route with episodes one and two hoping to "expand the reach of the project," which it is very likely to do: demand is high.

You can judge that by the fact the original five-day release through distributor Fathom Events has now been tripled because of early ticket sales. Christian Film Blog has no inside numbers, but we will venture a guess that these Season 3 episodes will break Fathom's current ticket-sales record, which belongs to this show's Christmas special from last year: Christmas with The Chosen: The Messengers brought in more than $13 million in the U.S.

This new season picks up where Season 2 of the show left off, with the Jesus character - played by American actor Jonathan Roumie - delivering The Sermon on the Mount, and it will finish with the famous miracle feeding of the 5,000. That scene, of course will come in the 8th and final episode of this season, and thus not be included in the theatrical release of episodes one and two.

While exact dates are not clear, those episodes - and the remaining six - will begin releasing online for free viewing in the near future via the program's website and apps (App Store / Google Play) in keeping with previous practice; Christian Film Blog will let you know the schedule once it is announced. In the meantime, this link will take you to Fathom Events' website in order to purchase tickets to a theater in your area.
