"Overcomer" Liking Labor Day

The Kendrick Brothers' latest movie claims the top spot in a very important box office measurement on the holiday.

Overcomer rang up $2.1 million at theaters on Labor Day, claiming fourth place overall, according to Box Office Mojo. That's an impressive result in its own right, but even more so when you consider the fact that this film has the lowest theater count in the group by a large margin at just 1,827: the next closest movie in the Top-5 is playing in 1,145 more theaters!

And now for the really good news. The Christian film was number one on the holiday for revenue per theater, averaging $1,155 in each venue. How impressive is that? A single competitor in the Top-25 broke $1,000 in that metric and another film topped $900. In other words, it blew everbody else out of the water, making for a great extended second weekend in release.

Overcomer, from Stephen Kendrick and Alex Kendrick tells a tale about finding our identity in Christ. It has a strong cast of Christian actors, including Cameron Arnett, Shari Rigby, Priscilla Shirer, Aryn Wright-Thompson and Alex Kendrick.
