Get Ready for New "VeggieTales"

The beloved animated characters are coming to TV in a series later this year.

Big Idea Content Group, the company behind VeggieTales, has worked out a deal with Trinity Broadcasting Network to air all new episodes on that Christian channel starting in autumn. The episodic program will run through 2021 and it is bringing back the original creators of this faith-based animated franchise, Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki.

Those two will reprise their roles as the voices of Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber, according to a joint announcement put out by TBN and Big Idea Content Group, and the first episode will be a Christmas story.

VeggieTales debuted in 1993 in the direct-to-video market and has been around since then, via everything from broadcast television to feature films, like Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie and The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything. TBN executive Tom Newman emphasizes this is about more than just entertaining audiences.

"These all new episodes will re-introduce VeggieTales to existing fans and remind new ones the importance of presenting Biblical values through high-quality children's entertainment."

The program will launch on TBN in October, though no exact date has yet been announced.
