The Christian film enjoys another good weekend at the box office.
Overcomer earned $1.5 million in ticket revenue from Friday through Sunday, according The Numbers. That's good for ninth place overall for this film - from the brother duo of Stephen Kendrick and Alex Kendrick - which is a respectable finish for its fifth weekend in release. More significant still, the picture has now moved into 20th place in all-time revenue in the Christian genre, according to Box Office Mojo, with a haul of just under $31.6 million.
The next two films above it on the list - Fireproof at 19th and Courageous at 18th - are also movies from the Kendrick Brothers. Overcomer needs about $2 million to pass the former and $3 million to go by the latter, and we suspect it will get them both before it finishes its theatrical run. The Kendricks' number one film - War Room - sits at number 7 on the list with nearly $68 million in ticket revenue: there is no chance that picture will be surpassed by this one.
Overcomer focuses on finding our indentity in Christ and features a strong cast of Christian actors, including Shari Rigby, Cameron Arnett, Aryn Wright-Thompson, Priscilla Shirer and Alex Kendrick, who also directed the movie and co-wrote the script with brother Stephen.
