Discipleship is at the Heart of "The Forge" from the Kendrick Brothers

The next picture from the Christian filmmakers is due to hit the silver screen late this summer.

Among the top teams in the faith-based genre, the Georgia duo of Alex and Stephen Kendrick will revisit some familiar territory with The Forge, having populated it with characters from their 2015 hit War Room. So, Christian actors like Priscilla Shirer, Karen Abercrombie and T.C. Stallings will play principal parts in this new film.

The story, however, is new and focuses on a teenager lacking direction in his life until he is taken under the wing of a devout Believer, who disciples him in the Faith. That latter role is played by Cameron Arnett, himself a committed Christian and a star in the Kendricks' film Overcomer from 2019.

In a new social media video promoting this movie, written by both brothers and directed by Alex, they announced that it is picture locked - meaning the edit is complete - and will now go into post-production for color correction and to have the musical score and visual effects inserted. Stephen mentions that, as with past films, there will be study materials that accompany it, because they want "people to be moved by the movie," and then be "transformed by the Word of God."

"It's family-friendly, but it is intense and exciting in some different places: it is an emotional roller coaster. There's some funny humor that's in the movie, but most importantly is this call to discipleship: that we need to get busy about leading people into an abiding, surrendered walk with Jesus, because that's the greatest thing in the world."

The Forge is scheduled to release on August 23rd of this year in theaters nationwide. In the meantime, you can check out the behind-the-scenes trailer that just came out this week to get a better feel for what to expect.
