The Hollywood star wins a lifetime achievement award and gives the credit to the Almighty.
Denzel Washington, who is an outspoken Christian, is one of the movie business' top leading men and has been for decades now, having won two Golden Globes, a Tony and two Oscars, including a best actor statuette for his role in the 2001 thriller Training Day. Last night in Los Angeles, he added another trophy to his collection, picking up the American Film Institute's 47th Lifetime Achievement Award.
He was greeted by a standing ovation from the audience, which included big-names like Morgan Freeman, who won the award in 2011, and director Spike Lee, who presented the statuette to Washington. In customary fashion, the 64-year old honoree used the opportunity to give credit to the Lord.
"If nothing else, I am living proof of the power of God...the opportunities that I have been afforded, I have been given by the grace of God."
Wow, humble words of wisdom from one of Hollywood's biggest stars and a most deserving award winner. Well done, Denzel Washington!
