The Christian filmmakers' new movie passes one of their old ones at the box office...and yet another picture of theirs may be next to fall.
Overcomer marks a box office milestone, moving up to 19th place all-time in the Christian genre with a total revenue haul of $33.5 million. That is enough to push it past Fireproof, the 2008 hit from Stephen Kendrick and Alex Kendrick, the brother team that co-wrote, produced and directed that one and this new one.
Overcomer is their sixth film and it focuses on the importance of finding our identity in Christ. The movie also features a strong cast of Christian actors, including Cameron Arnett, Shari Rigby, Priscilla Shirer, Aryn Wright-Thompson and, Mr. Jack of all trades, Alex Kendrick.
This will be its seventh weekend in release and it has a legitimate shot at moving farther up the all-time revenue list, needing about $1 million more to claim 18th place from - drumroll please - Courageous! That's the 2011 hit movie from the Kendrick Brothers. At this rate, they're going to own the whole list!
