Box Office Drop for "Bethany Hamilton: Unstoppable"

Updated: Jul 22, 2019

The documentary about the Christian professional surfer takes a big step back in its 2nd weekend in release, but still finishes in the Top-40.

Bethany Hamilton surfs in Tahiti in a scene from "Bethany Hamilton: Unstoppable."

Bethany Hamilton: Unstoppable brought in $60,000 from Friday through Sunday, according to estimates from The Numbers. That is down 75% from its debut and is no doubt in part due to a fall in its theater count - the film is now playing on 138 screens versus 205 on its opening weekend - but it nevertheless managed to claim the 35th spot overall at the box office.

From director/cinematographer Aaron Lieber, the documentary follows Bethany Hamilton on her journey from the moment she lost her arm in a shark attack as a teenager to her becoming a wife, mother and top-notch professional surfer as an adult. And through it all, she holds true to her Christian faith.

Lieber and Hamilton visited eight countries during filming, and her surfing and his camera work are really fantastic. Her personal story and gritty determination to overcome the loss of her arm are sure to inspire you, so if you haven't yet seen the movie, we recommend that you do so this week.
