The Christian film finishes just outside the Top-10 at the weekend box office.
Breakthrough brought in a $1.08 million in its fifth weekend in release, according to preliminary data from The Numbers, putting it in 11th place overall. The dynamics being what they are - the theater count is now under 1,400 - this is likely the last million-dollar weekend for the movie from Christian producer DeVon Franklin.
This faith-based picture has performed well so far, though, earning just over $39 million domestically against a production budget of $14 million. The international box office has been strong, too, adding $8.7 million more and the film has already claimed 14th place on the all-time box office list in the Christian genre, according to Box Office Mojo. It needs about $2 million more to move up another spot, which we think it has a chance to achieve.
Starring Chrissy Metz, Topher Grace, Josh Lucas and Marcel Ruiz, Breakthrough tells the true story of a Missouri boy who drowned in an icy lake and was brought back to life through the power of prayer. It also features some serious talent on the soundtrack, including Grammy winning country artist Carrie Underwood and Christian rapper Lecrae, another Grammy Award winner.
