The animated film about the life of Jesus breaks an impressive revenue threshold at the box office.

After 45 days in release, The King of Kings played in fewer than 100 theaters in North America over Memorial Day weekend, bringing in $57,700 and claiming 16th place, according to The Numbers website. What an overall run it has been, though, with the film staking its claim among the most successful pictures ever in the Christian genre: its domestic box office take now stands at $60.1 million.

That is a move into rarefied air for a faith-based picture, and by our count puts this one into eighth place all-time, right behind God's Not Dead. And when you added in its overseas revenue, the total global haul for The King of Kings climbs to $66.1 million. Its box office numbers are not likely to go much higher, however, since it has now become available via streaming for home entertainment, a tell-tale sign that the theatrical run is ending.
Seong Ho Jang, the Korean filmmaker behind the production, and his distribution partners at Angel Studios have to be thrilled with the film's performance: even though we are less than halfway through the year, it is almost certain to prove tops at the box office in the genre for 2025.
