The Year's Most Successful Christian Movie is also its Most Inspirational

I Can Only Imagine takes home top honors at the 49th annual Gospel Music Association Dove Awards.

The hit movie from the Erwin Brothers won the Dove Award for the Inspirational Film of the Year, the only non-music award given out at the GMA event in Nashville.

I Can Only Imagine, a biopic about Bart Millard, lead singer of the Christian rock band Mercy Me, is a story of forgiveness through the love of God, and it took its name from the music group's all-time best selling Christian rock song. J. Michael Finley stars as Millard and Dennis Quaid plays the role of his abusive father with whom he is ultimately reconciled.

The film was a huge hit at the box office, bringing in $83.5 million, which made it far and away the most successful faith-based movie of the year. That success paved the way for Andrew and Jon Erwin - and their producer partner Kevin Downes - to sign a major deal for Christian films and television programs with Lionsgate.

As to the award, you can catch the entire 49th GMA Dove Awards show on TBN Sunday, October 21st at 9:00 PM ET.
