The faith-based film managed the surprising feat in its 7th weekend in release.
When pictures have been in theaters this long, they are almost always moving down each weekend, but The Forge managed to buck that trend, coming in 13th place overall, up from 15th the previous weekend. According to data from The Numbers website, it pulled that off despite bringing in significantly less revenue this Friday through Sunday: $404,000 versus $736,000 from a week earlier. Weaker competition from other movies explains the improved position with less revenue.
The film from the Christian brother duo of Alex and Stephen Kendrick - and starring Priscilla Shirer, Karen Abercrombie, and Cameron Arnett - has now generated almost $28.3 million in North-American ticket sales against a production budget of $5 million. After 45 days in release, The Forge is currently playing in 510 domestic venues, down from a peak of more than 1,900 back in early September, meaning its theatrical run will likely wind down quickly going forward.
