"The Chosen" Will Shoot a Full First Season

A wildly successful crowdfunding campaign opens the door to produce all eight episodes.

The first ever multi-season series about the life of Jesus, The Chosen has raised a staggering $12.34 million from crowdfunding investors. That makes it far and away the most successful crowdfunded media project in history, blowing away the former number one - Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return - which raised $5.76 million. Filmmakers plan to spend at least $400,000 to make each episode and then use the remaining balance for marketing the show.

According to director Dallas Jenkins, the first four episodes are shot and being edited right now. In an update to supporters on Instagram, he says he is currently working with his co-writers on scripts for the final four episodes of season one.

Earlier, Jenkins had said he tentatively plans to release the first half of the season around Easter. In his latest update, he clarified the rest of the production and programming schedules.

"We are hoping to release episodes five through eight by the end of the year and we want to be shooting them some time in the middle of the year."

Jenkins also thanked investors for making all this possible and asked for continued prayer for the project. The Chosen will be available for viewing on the VidAngel streaming platform and Christian Film Blog will keep you apprised of the release dates. The pilot episode is already online and you can check it out below free of charge.
