The Christian actress consciously chose to make major professional sacrifices.
Though she jokes everbody calls her "the wife of Hercules," a reference to her famous husband Kevin Sorbo, who played the character in the 1990s, that is, indeed, often how Sam Sorbo is known. But in addition to being a mother, an author and a talk radio host, she is also a Hollywood actress in her own right. In fact, she and Kevin met during the filming of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, where he was the lead and she played Serena, a love interest.
Beyond the set, things blossomed for them in real life and they got married. Not long afterwards, however, the couple confronted a crisis when he suffered a series of strokes. In an interview with Pure Flix Pure Talk, Sam Sorbo says she canceled a job for a national TV network commercial to be with Kevin in the hospital, and her thought process was clear.
"I need to give up my career in order to be here for this individual who I love."
While she later resumed acting, it was nowhere near the scale of her husband's career after his recovery. And though some may view that as a professional loss for her, Sam Sorbo says her decision was the right one.
"As Christians we find in our sacrifices great gifts. So in fact, it was a gift. It was a gift to me because I don't know that our marriage would have survived if I had continued my career and he had continued his."
Sam and Kevin Sorbo have now been married 20 years and have three children. They are also among the most prominent Christian couples in the movie business.
