The company will rebrand the sister network of its flagship outlet, Great American Family.
Recognizing the growing market for faith-based content, Great American Media announced today a planned reorientation of its Great American Living channel, which will be renamed Great American Faith & Living. The parent company's leadership believes this move "fills a void in the marketplace," according to a press release announcing the change.
The launch date for the rebranded network is not yet clear, but when it does switch over, it will certainly tap into existing Christian content available through its merger with Sony's Pure Flix; that is the faith-based streaming platform that was renamed Great American Pure Flix earlier this year.
Bill Abbott, President and CEO of parent company Great American Media, said in the aforementioned press release that "now is the perfect time to sharpen (the company's) focus." He added that he is "confident" in the move, because he has seen the performance of programming that has already aired on his company's flagship network.
"Since the merger with Pure Flix, faith movies have been among the top-rated content on Great American Family (channel), and we feel strongly that the faith category is big enough to have a channel fully dedicated to the genre. We are committed to listening to our viewers and are dedicated to creating quality faith and family content that inspires and uplifts.”
As Christian Film Blog has previously reported, several of the leading on-screen stars at Great American Media are committed Believers, including Danica McKellar, Jill Wagner and Jen Lilley. Their headliner is Candace Cameron Bure, a particularly outspoken Christian, who also doubles as the Chief Creative Officer, helping to make programming decisions at the company.
We will update you on the launch date for Great American Faith & Living once it is announced. In the meantime, for those of you who enjoy Christmas movies, Great American Family will kick off its annual Yuletide programming event - Great American Christmas - on October 20th.
