Based on the true story of a Texas baseball prodigy, The Hill dives deep into the father-son relationship that so shaped the life of Rickey Hill. Born into an impoverished family, he was gifted with a tremendous talent for hitting a baseball and was determined to play professionally despite suffering from a degenerative spinal condition that forced him to wear leg braces as a child.

Nashville native Colin Ford portrays Hill while Dennis Quaid plays opposite as his Baptist-preacher father. Their relationship is complicated, because Quaid's character is fearful that the game will exacerbate his boy's health problems, one, and because he wants him to follow in his footsteps as a man of the cloth, two.

Ford's Instagram page features the Scripture Philippians 4:13 in his bio ("I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength") and it is something that helped him identify with his character in this movie. In a recent interview with Christian Headlines, the 26-year-old mentioned that it is one of his "favorite verses," adding that he repeats those words to himself when he is feeling "anxious or down" in order to serve as a reminder: "God is with me at all times."

The film, which was co-written by Angelo Pizzo, the screenwriter behind the successful sports pictures Hossiers (1986) and Rudy (1993), is scheduled to release in theaters nationwide on August 25th. In the meantime, the trailer below will give you a better sense for what to expect.
