Weekend number three for The Best Christmas Pageant Ever was not as strong as the first two, but the faith-based picture nonetheless managed to stay in the Top-10, coming in sixth place, down from third the previous two weekends. It generated $3.4 million from Friday through Sunday, according to The Numbers website, pushing its total North American box office haul to $25.4 million through 17 days in release.

Based on the 1972 children's book by the same title, this silver-screen adaptation comes from director Dallas Jenkins, the Christian filmmaker behind the hit series The Chosen, and tells the story of a small-town church play that surprisingly chooses a group of outcast siblings for leading roles. They, in turn, end up opening the eyes of reticent community members to the true meaning of Christmas.

A comedic drama, it took a big hit in its theater count this past weekend, with the total number of venues dropping from more than 3,000 to under 2,300. That is a trend that will almost certainly accelerate this coming Thanksgiving weekend, as big budget pictures typically expand their distribution footprint in the battle for holiday audiences.
