The Christian filmmaker promises an alternative to the "diet of razor blades and broken glass" offered on many of today's entertainment platforms.
Best-known as one of the creators and executive producers of the hit Hallmark Channel show When Calls the Heart, Brian Bird is a devout Believer committed to wholesome television programming. That is exactly what he aims to produce in his new multi-picture deal with the cable channel UPtv.
Bird, who has written screenplays for faith-based films like The Ultimate Life and The Case for Christ, already delivered for the channel in 2022, when he executive produced the made-for-TV movie The Engagment Plot, which was a hit on both UPtv and its streaming platform UP Faith & Family. A second picture, The Happy Camper, aired last month and a third one, Just Jake, will release later this year, with more to follow, according to Variety.
This agreement, signed through his production company True Brand Entertainment, will allow Bird and UPtv to continue to offer an alternative to the "zombies and vampires and crystal meth dealers" that are featured "24-7/365," as Bird humorously put it in a statement about the deal.
"During these very cynical and divided times, when most other platforms are offering their audiences a diet of razor blades and broken glass, we are committed to offering uplifting and values-based ‘soul food’ to UPtv’s loyal audience."
With a lengthy list of family-friendly hits like When Calls the Heart and its spinoff show When Hope Calls to his credit, there is little doubt Bird and his production partners will give said audience what it is looking for.
