Episodes 1 and 2 deliver strong revenue numbers as fans of this series about the life of Christ turn out on opening weekend.

The Chosen Season 3: Episodes 1 & 2 brought in $8.77 million at the box office from Friday through Sunday, which is good enough for third place overall, according to Box Office Mojo. Its opening night haul of $3.57 million is also the highest-grossing and most-well-attended faith film ever for Fathom Events, the production's distributor.

That outfit put The Chosen in more than 2,000 theaters opening weekend and it will be interesting to see if the theater count increases for weekend number two, in light of its performance. As a point of reference, this production from show creator/director Dallas Jenkins and his team even topped last year's opening Friday through Sunday for their Yuletide special, The Chosen: The Messengers; that one brought in $4.2 million over those three days (it actually opened, however, on a Wednesday, which gave it a five-day opening weekend total of $9.1 million, as we reported at the time).

The Chosen Season 3: Episodes 1 & 2 is scheduled to run in theaters through the end of this month, and you can purchase tickets to a venue in your area via this link to Fathom Events' website.
