1st Award for "Unplanned"

The pro-life Christian film is still in theaters, but it has already been recognized.

It's no secret that Unplanned is a commercial success, generating $18.1 million so far in its 10 weeks in release, but now fans have bestowed a non-monetary honor upon it as well. Christian actress Ashley Bratcher, the lead in the movie, took the stage at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville to accept the K-LOVE Film Impact award for 2019.

Voted on by the Christian radio network's fans, Unplanned took the honor over stiff competition. The other faith-based movies under consideration included Breakthrough, Indivisible, Run the Race and Unbroken: Path to Redemption, all of which are quality pictures worthy of recognition. But fans opted for Unplanned and it's hard to argue with their choice.

From the writer/director team of Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelman, the film is based on a memoir by the same name and it tells the true story of Abby Johnson, a former abortion clinic director who is now a passionate right-to-life advocate. Bratcher stars as Johnson and she turns in a top-notch performance. Fellow Christian actress Robia Scott is equally powerful in her role as Johnson's boss - and nemesis - at the abortion company.

The K-LOVE Fan Awards show will air this coming Sunday at 9:00 PM EDT/8:00 PM CDT on TBN; you can also catch it streaming online. Most of the honors are, of course, for music - K-LOVE is a radio network after all - but Unplanned will get its due as well.
