The Kendrick Brothers' film should move into the all-time Top 20 at the box office in the Christian genre this weekend.
Overcomer has brought in more than $30 million so far in four weeks in release, according to The Numbers. That puts it in 21st place among all faith-based films on a list kept by Box Office Mojo, and only about $60,000 behind the current holder of 20th place, When the Game Stands Tall, the 2014 football movie that stars Christian actor Jim Caviezel. So the film from Stephen Kendrick and Alex Kendrick will almost certainly pass it by with today's ticket revenue.
The picture is, however, losing theaters for the first time this weekend, which reverses its trend of adding to its theater count each of the three previous weekends: the tally drops today from 2,293 to 1,818. Experts are predicting it will still bring in $1.5 million over the three day period, which is a solid number. Check back with us late Sunday for a run down of the revenue figures.
There's one other interesting point to make about this movie and its place on the all-time Christian box office list: if it does claim 20th place, it will then sit just behind two other pictures from the Kendrick Brothers. Fireproof now occupies 19th place with $33.4 million and Courageous sits in 18th place with $34.5 million. It will take a bit longer, but Overcomer should, well, overcome them both...hee, hee - couldn't resist that one.
