Christian Actress Puts Trust in God, Risks Career

"I Can Only Imagine" star previously told if she wouldn't do nude scenes, she wouldn't work.

Madeline Carroll has been acting since she was nine years old. Last year she hit it big, landing a leading part in the Christian film I Can Only Imagine. Now 22, she told the audience at this year's Movieguide Awards, where the picture won the Epiphany Award for most inspiring movie, she had earlier faced a tough moment in her career.

Carroll was interested in a role in another production, but was informed she would need to do a nude scene. Being a Christian, she said no. Then she got a warning.

"I had someone literally say to me, ‘Madeline, that’s all there is for your age, so if you’re not comfortable with that, then I don’t know what to tell you: you’re not going to have a career."

She ignored that "conventional wisdom," stood by her convictions and trusted in the Lord. Then she got the part in I Can Only Imagine, the sixth highest grossing faith-based film ever, according to Box Office Mojo. She also landed roles in two other Christian movies from last year: Indivisible and God Bless the Broken Road.

Plenty of relevant scriptures come to mind, but we'll go with Romans 8:31: "If God is for us, who can be against us?" Three cheers for young Madeline Carroll for having the courage to live that out, and then share it with the rest of us.
