The last time that a VeggieTales picture graced the silver screen was back in 2008, when The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything drummed up nearly $13 million in domestic ticket sales. Now comes word that the next cinematic endeavor will hit movie theaters in 2026.

Since it was created in 1993 by Mike Nawrocki and Phil Vischer, the Christian franchise has generated a staggering $1.7 billion in total revenue - yes, that is billion with a "B" - through two feature films and the sales of 16 million books, 75 million videos, seven million CDs, et cetera. Usually starring a cucumber named Larry and a tomato named Bob, the stories feature other fruit and vegetable characters as well and act out Biblical stories or Christian life lessons.

LarryBoy , who will play the lead in this next endeavor, is a suction-cup-eared, custome-wearing, crime-fighting, superhero alter ego of said cucumber. According to Leslie Ferrell, an executive at the Universal Pictures division behind VeggieTales, the character is quite popular.

"LarryBoy is a fan favorite: who doesn’t love a superhero that has plungers on the side of his head?! The fans are always asking to see more of him. With LarryBoy in the lead role, we know we can deliver an entertaining movie for the whole family."

There is no word about the plot of the as yet untitled production, which will come from Big Idea Content Group - the aforementioned Universal division - and a Florida animation and comics company called Kingstone Studios. Christian Film Blog will keep an eye on developments with the project and bring you updates as we get them.
